Real Player turns 10

By Joel 'Jaykul' Bennett on 26-Mar-2004

You probably already saw this over on MajorGeeks, but in case you didn’t, Real has released their latest player (including the usual free version). You can get it in the usual place on their site.

What’s changed? Well, it’s not called “one” and they’ve made some technical improvements to their streaming support so that it should now start playing back faster (along the lines of the last Windows Media) and should allow pausing live streams without breaking them. And of course, now you can buy music through it.

Well, there’s a bunch of other new features if you get the premium player … but they are basically the same as before.

As a side note, I’m not actually recommending you get this new Real Player unless you already have an older version, in which case an upgrade is most likely in order. I’m not a big fan of the program’s in-your-face advertising trying to get you to sign up for services and watch shows you’d rather not.

About Huddled Masses

This is web site is dedicated to the musings of Joel Bennett (aka Jaykul) about technology, software, software development, the web, and the world.

Any resemblance of the views expressed and the views of my employer, my terminal, or the view out my window are purely coincidental. The resemblance between them and my own views is non-deterministic. The question of the existence of views in the absence of anyone to hold them is left as an exercise for the reader.

P.S.: I occasionally link to things I think are great. When I do, I occasionally find a "referral code" so I can make a little cash. I promise that I don't link to anything just because of that cash (I wouldn't cross the street for the amount of cash those links bring in, never mind write a whole blog post) ... but I do not promise that things I link to will stay great as time passes, nor that you will agree with me about their greatness!
