new xplorer² alpha

By Joel 'Jaykul' Bennett on 03-Jan-2004

There was a release last month of xplorer² that I missed. It’s the best file manager I’ve used, by far. And this new release it even better:

Unicode and UTF8 Support is now present, with nice support in the quick viewer, and the grep and find commands. There’s nice single hotkey support for copying from one pane to another, and it can even remember another folder so you can copy files there with a single keypress as well.

One of the coolest features in xplorer² has always been the scrap pane. In scrap panes you can view ‘flattened’ views of folder-trees, or the results of a search (like: all files named foo*.* or all html files which have the word “geoshell” in them). The scrap frames now do duplicates detection using name, size, or even content. Then it arranges them together and highlights the duplicate sets so you can decide what to do. They also resolve links, which allows you to replace selected shortcuts with their actual target files in the scrap frames… scrap frames rock!

Anyway, “go get it”:http://netez.com/2xExplorer/

About Huddled Masses

This is web site is dedicated to the musings of Joel Bennett (aka Jaykul) about technology, software, software development, the web, and the world.

Any resemblance of the views expressed and the views of my employer, my terminal, or the view out my window are purely coincidental. The resemblance between them and my own views is non-deterministic. The question of the existence of views in the absence of anyone to hold them is left as an exercise for the reader.

P.S.: I occasionally link to things I think are great. When I do, I occasionally find a "referral code" so I can make a little cash. I promise that I don't link to anything just because of that cash (I wouldn't cross the street for the amount of cash those links bring in, never mind write a whole blog post) ... but I do not promise that things I link to will stay great as time passes, nor that you will agree with me about their greatness!
