Well, I finally got sick of the “practically default” WordPress theme I’ve been using, and decided to code up my own. Being naturally lazy, I figured I’d borrow as much as possible from other people’s work… so of course, I’ll let you borrow from mine.
The new theme is called “Huddled Plain” (and may go through some additional changes in the next couple of days, I’m not really sure about the header image) it’s loosely based on a design called Plain 1.0 by James Koster which I found on the Open Source Web Design archives. I mixed it liberally with the default template which is, of course, based on the excellent Kubrik design by Michael Heilemann
The header image is one I found on stock.xchng after much searching on other stock photo sites for a suitable photo of masses. It’s crazy what you can get for free when the pay sites let you down.
So, yeah, all of this code-stuff was GPL, so I’m of course giving away the theme, if you want it. Please feel free to modify it before you use it. It’s in 7-Zip format, so if you haven’t upgraded yet, you may want to get the world’s best zip program
P.S.: I can’t stop chuckling about the fact that this header photo I’m using is not just a mass of people, it’s a mass of people at a Mass…
I dig the new header image – it’s totally apropos, but the fonts are a bit small and plain.
hola joel, where do you get these nice smileys? they are not in your
theme, do you use a special plugin or something or just replace it?
thanks in advance
regards .dean
Well, I wrote myself a little plugin I called ExtraSmilies when they took away the “wp-extra-smilies” stuff that the original WordPress releases had. All it really does is replace the built-in
wpsmiliestransarray. Feel free to rip it off … although I can’t technically give you permission to use the actual smilies … their copyright is a little unclear.
