Microsoft Watch has noted that Microsoft is offering it’s Microsoft Office source code to qualifying companies under their shared source licensing program. However, what’s most interesting about the article is a link to an older article from September which points out that the Sun-Microsoft settlement specifically leaves open a hole for Microsoft to sue OpenOffice over patent violations.
Mary Jo Foley rightfully points out that the combination of these two stories is enough to make you wonder if the giant in Redmond is feeling pressure from open source office productivity applications (in which case it seems certain they would use their patent portfolio to their advantage). I guess we’ll just have to wait and see…
