You can get a full copy of Visual Basic .NET 2003 Standard Edition free for just watching and rating 5 videos from Microsoft’s new site

It’s almost a shame. I’ve been trying to help a few people learn programming, and I’ve been encouraging them to learn C#, since there’s a free development environment and the mono project is working on a Linux version. But with this offer for VB.NET, it’s almost easier to just point them at that for their first language.

I learned basic before I learned any other languages (it was Atari Basic, but still) and it hasn’t scarred me too badly [;)]

    It’s a shame I don’t live in the States or Canada. :(

I noticed that they’re giving away a shareware version of FoxPro 9 Beta too. This is the software equivalent of a day-old bread sale.

PS: it would be nice to be able to use smilies to indicate humour in these comments (just like on messageboards).

  • eikonos … you can. just type it in! ;) :P [nospam] in fact, if you see a smilie in someone else’s comment, or in one of my posts, the alt text is always whatever text is required to make the smilie show up. I think most of the [square ones] that work on the geoshell forums, for instance, work, with or without square brackets :-D
